“Open Platform” simply means capable of working with ALL single-cups and k-cups® (including Keurig® 2.0 k-cups®).
The “open platform” k-cup® has become the accepted standard for single-cup brewing and is most certainly here to stay. Dozens of companies are introducing new “open platform” k-cup® brewers with innovative technology and beautifully designed machines built from the ground up to produce truly superior beverages. These next generation “open platform” single-cup brewing systems are capable of working with all single-cups including Keurig’s 2.0 capsules.
Looking to 2015 and beyond, the dramatic increase in number of k-cup® compatible brewers along with a considerably reduced baseline brewer cost means higher household penetration rates. Supporting ongoing predictions for growth of the single-serve beverage market in the US and abroad, we see tremendous opportunity in supplying this thirsty market with a growing variety and elevated quality of beverages made to work in these advanced machines.
I recently attended the 2014 International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago. I was there as a buyer for our online retail channel, OneCup.com, scouting out the latest and greatest k-cup® compatible brewers and am happy to report that there are well over a dozen new open platform brewers coming to stores in very soon! Companies including Remington, Touch Beverages, Hamilton Beach and many more are introducing advanced and beautifully designed machines beginning in September of 2014. Remember, these innovative brewers accept ALL types of k-cup® beverages, some even capable of brewing larger size carafes.
With the abundance of new “open platform” k-cup® brewers on display at the International Home + Housewares Show, Keurig® and Keurig® 2.0 are sure to be facing some very serious and immediate competition. Companies are introducing new innovations in brewer technology and beautifully designed machines built from the ground up to produce truly superior beverages.
An incredible range of brewers from both US and Chinese brands along with impressive innovations including Remington’s iCup brewers with steam brew and rotational technology and the new Touch™ Brewer’s remarkable instant hot water with zero recovery time between brews leads us to believe that the “open platform” k-cup® has become the accepted standard for single-cup brewing and is most certainly here to stay.
Retailers still have plenty of current model Keurig® brewers and they will likely continue to be sold in stores and online through 2014-2015. If you currently own any model Keurig® Brewer, you should be fine to use all types of k-cups®. The newly redesigned “2.0” K-Cups® will brew just fine in your current Keurig® brewer, as well as in all of these new open platform brewers. When it comes to new brewers, we encourage you to reference the information we’re sharing and inform your customers and retailers of all available choices. We think we can save people from limiting their choices by purchasing a Keurig® 2.0 brewer. New and great coffee, tea and other innovative beverages are emerging in single-cup (k-cup®) format almost every week! Enjoying the freedom to brew all of these wonderful single-cup beverages is what it’s all about.
